BIM one was engaged to deliver the utilities coordination and design scope during the Preliminary and Detailed Design phases for the M1 Pacific Motorway Exit 49 Interchange Upgrade.
The upgrade involved collapsing the two roundabouts into new signalised intersections, significant upgrades to the associated local service roads, and installation of a new overpass bridge. The team was responsible for the coordination and management of PUP site investigations, the detailed conflict assessment, development of relocation / protective treatments, liaison with utility authorities and negotiation of technical solutions with authority representatives.
During the early stages of the Preliminary Design phase for the Exit 49 Interchange project, Michael was able to apply his in-depth of all engineering aspects typically associated with the development of a TMR road/ highway interchange upgrade – working closely with the other key discipline leads to identify opportunities to minimise the number and extent of PUP impacts compared to those identified during the Business Case. The BIM one team worked closely with the broader highways / civil design team to refine geometric solutions, storm water drainage arrangements, and road furniture placement – which ultimately reduced the relocation costs by approximately $4 million compared to the Business Case arrangement.
The management of the site investigations scope included geotechnical, pavement, ITS, ecological surveys, noise monitoring, traffic counts and utility survey. Our team was responsible for the planning, programming, traffic control, on-site management, and technical oversight - for the safe and timely delivery for the full suite of site investigations.
